In early May, I had my VIVA – the oral defense of my PhD thesis.
My examiners were Prof. Michael O’Flaherty of the National University of Ireland Galway and Ms. Lorna McGregor from our university.
When I went into the room, I was told “Congratulations”, which I did not quite know what I should make out of. I could see that they read every line of my thesis very carefully, as most of the pages were marked with post-its and their corners folded.
I am very thankful that they made recommendations in very helpful and indeed interesting points. One of the recommendations was to remove the attached database containing information about allegations of criminal conduct committed by personnel associated with UN Peace Operations, and make the content in the thesis.
I passed the VIVA!
